INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

The preferred airport for your arrival is Julius Nyerere International Dar es Salaam Kilimanjaro. Should your flight into Tanzania arrive in the afternoon or evening, you will spend the first night in Dar before starting your safari the following day.

VISAS

If you are a citizen of a country requiring a visa to enter Tanzania, you can either obtain this beforehand from the Tanzania High

Commission in your country of residence or on arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport.

IMMUNIZATIONS

We recommend you contact your personal physician, local immunization clinic or public health facility to find out what immunizations are required for your journey. Prophylactic medication for malaria is highly recommended when travelling to Tanzania. There are pharmacies and hospitals in Dar es Salaam but you should bring an adequate supply of your prescribed medicines. There are first aid bags in the safari vehicles and comprehensive medical boxes in each camp.

INSURANCE AND MEDICAL EMERGENCY EVACUATION COVERAGE

We recommend that you obtain your own medical emergency evacuation coverage. In addition we recommend you take out a trip cancellation policy and adequate insurance cover for yourself and your personal effects.

CLIMATE

Being an equatorial county, Tanzania enjoys a moderate climate. Average daytime temperatures vary between 70o – 90o Fahrenheit

(20o – 30o centigrade) with cooler temperatures in the early mornings and evenings. Please bear in mind temperatures can exceed

30o during the day and humidity levels can be high. Tanzania has two rainy seasons which generally occur from March – May (long rains) and November – December (short rains).

Temperatures in July and August are considerably cooler and warmer clothing is recommended for safaris at this time of the year.

GMT (London) + 3 hours (2 hours during daylight saving months) EST (New York) + 8 hours (7 hours during daylight saving months)

CURRENCY

The local currency is the Tanzania Shilling. There are no currency controls in Tanzania and foreign currency is accepted in many locations. The preferred currency is US Dollars (cash) although travellers cheques are accepted in some places. There is a fee charged on travellers cheques and depends on the individual bureau.

COMMUNICATIONS

All camps are provided with a short wave radio and satellite telephones. There is also radio network between vehicles, between camps and from camps to our head office.

SUGGESTED PACKING LIST

Bush clothes should be loose, comfortable and sturdy. Khaki and green colours in cotton material are best. Tanzania, due to its altitude, can sometimes be cold. A warm duffel jacket or heavy jersey is necessary in some areas for the cool of the evening, night and morning. An anti- tsetse fly jacket is recommended such as the Bug Tamer, available in the United States. Soft bags of duffels are best for safari.

Please bring soft valises for each of your rifles. All hard rifle cases will remain in Dar until your return.
